Frequently Asked Questions
What storage unit sizes are available?
United Self-Storage offers a variety of unit sizes and types to suit most any storage need. Unit sizes range from 5x10 (the size of a walk-in closet) to 20x20 (the size of a two-car garage), with a wide range of sizes in between.
How do I decide what size storage unit I will need?
Use our size estimator as a guideline or call our office where a professional storage consultant will help you choose the right size unit.
Do I have to sign a lease?
Your rental agreement is a month-to-month contract with United Self-Storage Centers. You can move out whenever you want.
Is there a security deposit?
No security deposit is required.
When is my rent due?
Rent is due in advance on your rental agreement anniversary date.
Will I receive a monthly invoice?
An electronic invoice will be e-mailed to you free of charge ten days prior to your rental due date. Paper invoices can be mailed, at your request, for a nominal service charge.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Besides making your payment online under the My Account tab, United Self-Storage offers several payment options. With our auto pay program, we can automatically charge your Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express or debit card each month on your rent anniversary date. If you prefer, make your payment by phone free of charge. Mail us a payment and it will be posted to your account the same day it is received. We also accept personal checks, money orders, Visa, Master Card, Discover, and American Express payments at our store during regular business hours, or you can drop a payment in the night drop after hours.
Do you provide insurance for my property?
United Self-Storage does not carry insurance on the contents of your unit. We do require that you get insurance for your stored property, just as you would if it was in your home or business. Your storage consultant can provide you with information on self-storage insurance.
What are your office hours?
Our office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM and on Saturday, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM. You have access to your unit 365 days/year.
What must I bring with me when I rent a unit?
You will need one form of current identification, including picture and signature. Rent is in advance, so you will need to pay your first month's rent at time of rental.
When can I access my unit?
All units are accessible 365 days/year between the hours of 6:00 AM - 9:00 PM. Twenty-four hour access is available at our Grantham Center.
Do you provide a lock for my unit?
No, you will lock your unit with your own padlock and keep your own key. We do, however, offer a selection of padlocks that can be purchased at our on-site store.
How is my unit secured?
Each unit door is padlocked with the customer's own lock. We do not keep a key for your unit. The facility grounds are completely fenced, well-lighted at night and accessible only through a key-padded entry gate. Strategically placed video cameras record 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
Does anyone else have access to my unit?
No, unless you choose to give someone else access. Additional persons having access to the unit should be reported to the storage office.
Are there any items I can't store?
Common sense and state laws determine what may be stored. Combustible, explosive, hazardous, or toxic materials are prohibited. The storage of food or perishable goods is not permitted.
What if I need more or less space after I move in?
One of our storage consultants will be happy to assist you in adding or transferring to the right size space to suit your needs. The month-to-month lease makes it easy and convenient to increase or decrease your storage space. (Subject to availability)
Do you provide moving equipment?
Our 15-foot rental truck is available to all qualifying customers. Dollies and hand-trucks may be checked-out at our storage office for no additional charge.
What are the requirements for renting the truck?
Rental truck may be used for local moves only. The driver of the truck must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver's license. Proof of liability insurance on the driver's automobile must be presented at time of rental. A Visa, Master Card, Discover or American Express in the driver's name is required (no debit cards accepted).
How do I qualify for the "free" truck rental?
Rent a 10x10 unit or larger. All drivers must meet truck rental requirements to be eligible. Offer applies to daily truck rental fee only; customers are responsible for their mileage and refueling charges.
What is Climate Control?
Climate-controlled units are heated and cooled by central heat and air conditioning. Temperatures are kept between 60 degrees (in winter) and 78 degrees (in summer). This allows your items to be stored as if they were in your own home or office.
Do you accept reservations?
Reservations are recommended and will guarantee your unit details, including size, rate and potential savings. The rental start date can be set for up to 7 days out. All reservations must be guaranteed with a Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express. Reservations may be cancelled up to your rental start date. Failure to finalize your rental agreement or cancel your reservation by the rental start date will result in a $25.00 service charge to your credit card.
What do I need to do when I’m ready to move out?
Give proper notice to the storage office. After you remove all of your belongings, sweep out the unit and dispose of any trash. Be sure to close the unit door and take your lock with you.
How much notice do I have to give prior to moving out?
Ten days written or verbal notice is required.
